Trip Description
Spend 1.25 hours outdoors at Avery Point surveying the rocky intertidal zone and 1.25 hours in our lab with conducting a hands-on lab of your choosing. Pairs well with: Critter Bins, Crab Habitats
The rocky shore is a rugged environment, battered by surf and changing seasons, and exposed to dramatic daily swings in temperature and tides. Students will explore the rocky intertidal zone in search of local inhabitants and determine how they are adapted to survive in such a harsh environment. We’ll find and learn about crabs, snails, barnacles, seaweeds, and more!
To prepare for this trip: Students should be in sensible footwear (sneakers, boots, crocs) for our exploration in the rocky habitat. The rocks can be slick with algae and closed-toe shoes are ideal.
