Project Oceanology’s Middle School Trips offer hands-on, immersive experiences that bring science to life. Students can explore a variety of marine habitats, including Long Island Sound and the surrounding marshes, beaches, and islands. Through activities like trawling for sea creatures, conducting water chemistry tests, and monitoring seal populations, students gain a deeper understanding of the complex ecosystems that make up our planet.

Gull Rookery Study (Member Schools Only)

Overview

Monitor nesting activity on a multi-species island bird rookery by recording numbers of nests, eggs and chicks.

Introduction to Marine Biology

Overview

Introduction to Oceanography

Overview

Seal Population Study

Overview

Conduct a Harbor Seal census off the north shore of Fishers Island, and analyze population changes and environmental factors.

Sewage Treatment Plant Study

Overview

Wind Siting Study

Overview

Evaluate the merit of two fictional Wind Farm sites by gathering evidence of efficiency, and human & environmental impacts.

Nearshore Fish Study and Water Chemistry – Bluff Point

Overview
